A more powerful charger is not automatically the most useful choice for every household; the car and the home's supply also matter.
Choose a practical parking position
Think about where the car normally parks and where its charging port sits. A convenient cable route should be part of the plan, rather than an afterthought. Let us know whether the space is a garage, driveway or carport and whether a second vehicle may need charging in future. If you live in an apartment or share a driveway, discuss the proposed work with the owners corporation before committing to an installation.
Have the electrical supply assessed
A charger needs an assessment of the existing installation. Your electrician will consider supply capacity, the switchboard, circuit protection and the route to the parking space. An upgrade should follow an assessment, rather than an assumption based only on the age of the house. Ask what work is necessary, why it is needed, and whether load management is appropriate for your setup.
Compare the complete installation
Compare quotes for the whole job, not just the charger. Ask whether equipment, cable installation, any switchboard work, setup and the handover are included. If solar charging or scheduled charging matters to you, discuss compatibility with your equipment and how the controls work. Running costs depend on your electricity plan and charging habits; check current retailer terms rather than relying on a generic savings figure.
Prepare for a useful quote
