ELECTRICAL FAULT FINDING / COBURG NORTH / 3058 Power keeps tripping?
Find the cause.
Fix it properly.

Careful investigation. Clear explanations.
A practical plan for the problem in your home.

02 / THE WORK, CONSIDERED

Look beyond the symptom.
Work towards the cause.

ELECTRICAL TESTING / VOLTRA ELECTRICAL

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Inspect. Test. Explain.
Then agree the repair.

We start with what you have noticed and the parts of the installation involved. Inspection and testing help distinguish a fitting problem from a circuit or connected-equipment issue.

Diagnosis and repair are related, but they are not always the same job. We explain what has been found, any limitations and the work proposed before proceeding with additional repairs.

Tell us about the fault

POWER KEEPS TRIPPING?

Why does the power trip?
Find the cause first.

When the power trips, a safety switch (RCD) or circuit breaker has done its job and cut a circuit. The trip is the warning, not the fault itself, so the job is to find what caused it.

Switchboard with individually labelled safety switches for power, lighting, oven and air conditioning circuits, plus surge protection
LABELLED SAFETY SWITCHES / VOLTRA ELECTRICAL
Safety switch tripping
A safety switch trips when it detects current leaking to earth. Common causes are a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor power point or light, or a damaged cable.
Circuit breaker tripping
A circuit breaker trips when a circuit is overloaded or has a short circuit, such as heaters and a kettle on one circuit, or a damaged cable or fitting.
Lights tripping
If a lighting circuit trips, a failed light fitting or LED driver, water in an outdoor light or a damaged cable in the ceiling are the usual suspects.
Tripping when it rains
Water getting into an outdoor power point, light or cable joint is a common cause. Leave the circuit off until it is checked.
What you can try
Unplug everything on the affected circuit and reset the switch. If it holds, plug items back in one at a time; the one that trips it is likely the cause. Stop there and call us.
When to call straight away
If it trips again with everything unplugged, trips after rain, or you notice burning smells, heat or scorch marks, leave it off and call 0495 096 344.
Never bypass it
Do not tape a safety switch on or have it removed to stop the tripping. It is there to reduce the risk of electric shock.

If there is smoke, fire or someone has received a shock, call 000.

OTHER COMMON FAULTS

Half the house off?
Lights flickering?

Not every fault trips a switch. These are other common problems we trace, and what to check before you call.

Half the house has no power
One safety switch often covers several circuits, so a single trip can take out half the house. Check the switchboard first; if nothing has tripped, call us.
No power at all
Check whether your neighbours have power. If they do not, it is likely a supply outage for your electricity distributor. If they do, call us.
A dead power point
A loose connection, a worn power point or a fault further along the circuit can stop one outlet working. Stop using it if it is warm or discoloured.
Flickering or dimming lights
Often an LED that does not suit its dimmer, a failing driver or a loose connection. If lights across the house flicker when large appliances start, the supply or main connections need checking.
Buzzing, heat or a burning smell
Turn the circuit off at the switchboard if it is safe to do so, and call us straight away.
What we do
We test the circuits, find the cause, explain what we found and agree the repair before carrying it out.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Useful observations.
A careful assessment.

You do not need to identify the electrical fault. Describe what happened, when it started and what has changed.

The pattern
Timing, affected rooms and what was in use can help. Do not deliberately recreate a fault or keep resetting a circuit that repeatedly trips.
The investigation
Testing is selected for the symptoms and installation. Access, isolation and the behaviour of the fault determine what can be established during the visit.
Intermittent problems
Some faults need further investigation or a return visit. We record the findings and explain remaining uncertainty rather than promise every fault will appear on demand.
The next step
We explain repair options and any immediate safety concerns. Parts, access and the extent of the problem affect whether repair can be completed during the same visit.

04 / FROM FIRST LOOK TO FINAL CHECK

Clear at every step.

  1. 01

    Describe the symptoms.

Share the suburb, affected area and what you have noticed. Call to discuss an urgent concern rather than relying on a form response.

  2. 02

    Investigate the cause.

We agree the investigation scope, inspect the relevant installation and carry out appropriate testing.

  3. 03

    Explain the findings.

We discuss what the checks show, what remains uncertain and the repair or further investigation proposed.

  4. 04

    Repair and verify.

Where agreed, we carry out the repair and test the work. Electrical installation work receives the relevant safety certificate.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Do you provide electrical fault finding in Coburg North?

Yes. We cover every part of Coburg North (VIC 3058). Include your street and a short description of the job, and we will come back to you about timing. We also cover Coburg and Fawkner.

My power keeps tripping in Coburg North. What should I do?

Unplug appliances on the affected circuit and try resetting the safety switch. If it trips again, leave it off and call us on 0495 096 344. Note when it trips and what was running, which helps us find the cause.

What affects the cost of electrical fault finding in Coburg North?

Mainly access (roof space, subfloor and wall construction), the existing circuits and whether the switchboard has room for the work. 76% of Coburg North homes are separate houses, where roof and subfloor access usually make cable runs simpler. We confirm the scope before quoting.

Half my house has no power. What should I do?

Check the switchboard for a tripped safety switch or circuit breaker. If one has tripped and will not reset, or nothing has tripped, call us. If your neighbours have no power either, contact your electricity distributor.

What if the fault does not happen while you are there?

We inspect and test what we can, record the findings and discuss further investigation if needed. A symptom log can help, but do not recreate an unsafe condition to demonstrate it.

Can you investigate faults in a rental property?

Yes. The authorised property contact can arrange the work and access. Fault investigation is separate from the property's scheduled rental electrical safety check.

What if there is fire or immediate danger?

Keep clear of the affected area and call 000 for fire or an immediate threat to life. Do not wait for a website enquiry response or attempt electrical repairs yourself.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Coburg North.
A clearer next step.

About 8,300 people live in Coburg North, in about 3,070 occupied homes (2021 Census). In Coburg North's older homes, faults often come from ageing connections, older fittings or circuits extended over the years. 76% of homes are separate houses, where faults can sit anywhere from the switchboard to an outdoor circuit. Noting when the fault happens and what was running at the time helps narrow it down. Neighbouring Coburg (65%) and Fawkner (84%) sit either side of Coburg North on this measure.

364 home batteries have been installed in postcode 3058 since July 2025, on top of about 3,770 solar systems since 2001, according to the Clean Energy Regulator. Solar and battery systems add to what the switchboard has to manage, which we take into account.
