02 / THE WORK, CONSIDERED

Planned from the board.

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Model. Circuit. Switchboard.
Checked together.

Most induction cooktops need more than 15 amps, so many need their own circuit back to the switchboard. Some models can be set to draw less power to suit a smaller circuit; we check what yours allows.

A new cooktop circuit is protected by a safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard, and the cooktop gets its own isolating switch near the bench. If the board has no room, we explain the options before quoting.

GAS TO INDUCTION

Switching from gas?
What changes.

Many Melbourne kitchens are moving their cooking off gas. This is what the change usually involves on the electrical side.

INDUCTION COOKTOP / KITCHEN DETAIL
A new circuit
A gas cooktop usually has only a power point nearby for its ignition, which is too small for most induction cooktops. We run a dedicated circuit from the switchboard.
Safety switch protection
Under the Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000), a new cooktop circuit is protected by a 30 mA safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard.
An isolating switch
A hard-wired cooktop needs its own switch near the bench, where you can see and reach it, not on the cooktop itself.
The gas side
A licensed gasfitter disconnects and caps the old cooktop's gas supply. We coordinate timing so you are not without a cooktop for long.
Switchboard check
If the board is full or has older protection, we explain what needs to change before the cooktop goes in.
Testing & certificate
We test the circuit and the cooktop connection and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the electrical work.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Before you buy.
Check these first.

The model number is the best starting point. Send it before you order and we can check what your kitchen needs.

Circuit & cable
We compare the cooktop's rating with the existing circuit and cable. A larger cooktop often needs a new, dedicated circuit.
Switchboard space
A new circuit needs space and a safety switch at the board. Older boards may need changes first, which we explain before quoting.
Single or three phase
Most homes run an induction cooktop on single-phase power. Three-phase is rarely needed for a cooktop alone.
Cut-out & clearances
The benchtop cut-out and clearances come from the installation instructions. A nominal width alone does not confirm the fit.
Pots & pans
Induction only works with magnetic cookware. If a magnet sticks firmly to the base of a pan, it should work.
Gas disconnection
A licensed gasfitter must cap the gas. We work around their timing so the cooktop is connected when the bench is ready.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the trades.

We line up with your gasfitter and cabinet maker so the circuit is ready when the bench is.

  4. 04

    Connect, test and certify.

We connect the cooktop, test the circuit and safety switch, and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Do you provide induction cooktop installation in Craigieburn?

Yes. We cover every part of Craigieburn (VIC 3064). Send your street, the work you need and any access notes, and we will confirm availability and the next step. We also cover Epping and Roxburgh Park.

Can I switch to an induction cooktop in my Craigieburn home?

Usually, yes. Induction cooktops often need a dedicated circuit of a higher rating than an older electric cooktop. We check the circuit, cable and switchboard against the model you have chosen.

What affects the cost of induction cooktop installation in Craigieburn?

Mainly access (roof space, subfloor and wall construction), the existing circuits and whether the switchboard has room for the work. 89% of Craigieburn homes are separate houses, where roof and subfloor access usually make cable runs simpler. We confirm the scope before quoting.

Can you disconnect the gas cooktop?

We handle the electrical work. A licensed gasfitter must disconnect and cap the gas, and we can work around their timing.

Do I need new pots and pans?

Only if they are not magnetic. Induction heats magnetic cookware, so if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base, the pan should work.

Can you install a cooktop I have already bought?

Yes, as long as it suits the space and the supply. Send the model number and installation instructions so we can check the circuit and cut-out first.

What helps you quote?

The cooktop model, a photo of the kitchen and a photo of the switchboard with its cover closed. You do not need to move appliances or open anything.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Craigieburn.
A clearer next step.

About 65,200 people live in Craigieburn, in about 18,960 occupied homes (2021 Census). Craigieburn's mix of homes means the existing cooking circuit can range from ample to too small for induction. With 3.3 people per household on average, cooktops here tend to be well used. For comparison, the share of homes that are separate houses in Craigieburn (89%) falls between neighbouring Epping (81%) and Roxburgh Park (90%).

Our Lalor base is about 12 km from Craigieburn, which lies to the north-west, in Melbourne's outer north, near Craigieburn Central and Craigieburn station. Craigieburn sits within the Hume council area. We also work in neighbouring Epping, Roxburgh Park and Wollert.
