INDUCTION COOKTOP INSTALLATION / LAVERTON / 3028 Induction cooktops.
Properly connected.
Ready to cook.

Gas to induction, or a straight swap.

02 / THE WORK, CONSIDERED

More power than it looks.
Planned from the board.

KITCHEN ELECTRICAL WORK / VOLTRA ELECTRICAL

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Model. Circuit. Switchboard.
Checked together.

Most induction cooktops need more than 15 amps, so many need their own circuit back to the switchboard. Some models can be set to draw less power to suit a smaller circuit; we check what yours allows.

A new cooktop circuit is protected by a safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard, and the cooktop gets its own isolating switch near the bench. If the board has no room, we explain the options before quoting.

GAS TO INDUCTION

Switching from gas?
What changes.

Many Melbourne kitchens are moving their cooking off gas. This is what the change usually involves on the electrical side.

INDUCTION COOKTOP / KITCHEN DETAIL
A new circuit
A gas cooktop usually has only a power point nearby for its ignition, which is too small for most induction cooktops. We run a dedicated circuit from the switchboard.
Safety switch protection
Under the Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000), a new cooktop circuit is protected by a 30 mA safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard.
An isolating switch
A hard-wired cooktop needs its own switch near the bench, where you can see and reach it, not on the cooktop itself.
The gas side
A licensed gasfitter disconnects and caps the old cooktop's gas supply. We coordinate timing so you are not without a cooktop for long.
Switchboard check
If the board is full or has older protection, we explain what needs to change before the cooktop goes in.
Testing & certificate
We test the circuit and the cooktop connection and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety for the electrical work.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Before you buy.
Check these first.

The model number is the best starting point. Send it before you order and we can check what your kitchen needs.

Circuit & cable
We compare the cooktop's rating with the existing circuit and cable. A larger cooktop often needs a new, dedicated circuit.
Switchboard space
A new circuit needs space and a safety switch at the board. Older boards may need changes first, which we explain before quoting.
Single or three phase
Most homes run an induction cooktop on single-phase power. Three-phase is rarely needed for a cooktop alone.
Cut-out & clearances
The benchtop cut-out and clearances come from the installation instructions. A nominal width alone does not confirm the fit.
Pots & pans
Induction only works with magnetic cookware. If a magnet sticks firmly to the base of a pan, it should work.
Gas disconnection
A licensed gasfitter must cap the gas. We work around their timing so the cooktop is connected when the bench is ready.

04 / FROM FIRST LOOK TO FINAL CHECK

Clear at every step.

  1. 01

    Send the model.

Tell us the cooktop model, your suburb and whether you are replacing gas, electric or starting fresh.

  2. 02

    Check the supply.

We check the circuit, cable and switchboard against the model, then confirm the work and price in writing.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the trades.

We line up with your gasfitter and cabinet maker so the circuit is ready when the bench is.

  4. 04

    Connect, test and certify.

We connect the cooktop, test the circuit and safety switch, and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Do you provide induction cooktop installation in Laverton?

Yes. We cover every part of Laverton (VIC 3028), on both the Hobsons Bay and Wyndham sides of the council boundary. Include your street and a short description of the job, and we will come back to you about timing. We also cover Altona and Altona Meadows.

Can I switch to an induction cooktop in my Laverton home?

Usually, yes. Induction cooktops often need a dedicated circuit of a higher rating than an older electric cooktop. We check the circuit, cable and switchboard against the model you have chosen.

What affects the cost of induction cooktop installation in Laverton?

Mainly access (roof space, subfloor and wall construction), the existing circuits and whether the switchboard has room for the work. 78% of Laverton homes are separate houses, where roof and subfloor access usually make cable runs simpler. We confirm the scope before quoting.

Do I need an electrician to install an induction cooktop?

For a hard-wired cooktop, yes. Connecting it to the fixed wiring is electrical work for a licensed electrician, and we provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety for it.

Will my existing circuit run an induction cooktop?

Sometimes. Most induction cooktops draw more than 15 amps, so an older cooktop circuit or a power point is often too small. We check the rating and cable against your model, ideally before you buy.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade for induction?

Not always. A new circuit needs space and a safety switch at the board. If the board is full or outdated, we explain the options before quoting.

Do I need three-phase power for an induction cooktop?

Rarely. Most homes run an induction cooktop on single-phase power. Three-phase is usually only worth considering when the home is also adding other large loads.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Laverton.
A clearer next step.

About 4,800 people live in Laverton, in about 1,750 occupied homes (2021 Census). In Laverton's older homes, moving from gas to induction often needs a new or larger circuit, and sometimes switchboard changes. For comparison, the share of homes that are separate houses in Laverton (78%) falls between neighbouring Altona (61%) and Altona Meadows (85%).

Laverton is about 30 km south-west of our Lalor base, in Melbourne's west, near Laverton station. Laverton is split between the Hobsons Bay council area (about 54% of the suburb) and Wyndham. We also work in neighbouring Altona, Altona Meadows and Williams Landing.
