Replacing an old oven.
A new oven can draw more than the one it replaces. We check the circuit and cable before reusing the old connection.
Wall ovens, pyrolytic ovens and freestanding cookers.
The circuit and safety switch checked first.
01 / START WITH THE OVEN’S RATING
We install electric wall ovens, pyrolytic ovens and freestanding cookers in Fitzroy North 3068, checking the oven's rating against the circuit and safety switch first. We explain the options and agree the work before anything starts.
Some smaller wall ovens plug into a standard power point. Most electric ovens draw more than a power point can supply, so they are hard-wired on their own circuit by a licensed electrician.
Voltra Electrical installs electric ovens across Melbourne: wall ovens, double and pyrolytic ovens, and freestanding cookers. We check the model against your existing circuit and switchboard, then connect, test and certify the work.

If your new oven has a plug, it still needs a suitable power point in the right spot. We can add or move one.
Send the oven model early so the circuit, switch and cabinet opening are planned before the joinery goes in.
02 / THE WORK, CONSIDERED

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH
We read the oven's rating and installation instructions, then check the existing circuit, cable and protection. A like-for-like swap on a sound circuit can be straightforward; a bigger oven may need a new circuit.
When we run a new oven circuit or alter the existing one, it is protected by a 30 mA safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard, as the wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000) require. If your oven circuit has no safety switch now, we will point it out.
Plan your oven installationOVENS & SAFETY SWITCHES
A safety switch (RCD) cuts the power when it detects current leaking to earth, which reduces the risk of electric shock. For ovens, what is required depends on the work being done.

We test the circuit and the safety switch after every oven installation and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
OTHER KITCHEN APPLIANCES
A new oven is often part of a bigger kitchen change. We handle the electrical side of the other appliances too.
03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP
The model number and installation instructions tell us most of what we need.
04 / FROM FIRST LOOK TO FINAL CHECK
Tell us the oven model, your suburb and whether it replaces an existing oven.
We check the rating, circuit, safety switch and cabinet opening, then confirm the work and price.
We disconnect the old oven if agreed, then connect the new one once it is in place.
We test the circuit and safety switch and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED
Yes. We cover every part of Fitzroy North (VIC 3068). Include your street and a short description of the job, and we will come back to you about timing. We also cover Brunswick East and Carlton.
Yes. Send the oven's model number and we check its rating against your existing circuit and safety switch, so you know before delivery whether anything needs to change.
Yes. Period homes often have lath-and-plaster ceilings, decorative features and older wiring, so we plan access and fixings carefully and check the existing circuits before adding to them.
For a hard-wired oven, yes. Connecting it to the fixed wiring is electrical work for a licensed electrician. A plug-in oven still needs a suitable power point in the right place.
A new or altered oven circuit is protected by a 30 mA safety switch (RCD) at the switchboard under the wiring rules. A straight swap on the existing circuit can count as a repair, but we will tell you if your oven circuit is unprotected.
Only if it is designed to. Most electric ovens draw more than a standard power point can supply and are hard-wired. Some smaller ovens have a 10 or 15 amp plug, and the outlet has to match.
Sometimes. If the new oven's rating suits the existing circuit and cable, the swap can be straightforward. We check before connecting.
YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA
Fitzroy North is a suburb of about 12,780 people (2021 Census), where 47% of homes are owner-occupied and 49% are rented. With an average of 2.2 people per household in Fitzroy North, oven upgrades are often about features such as pyrolytic cleaning rather than size.
