SMART HOME / CONNECTED CONTROLS

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Familiar switches.
Considered connections.

We review the switch position, connected load and wiring required by the selected product. Controls are planned around your daily routines and the devices you want to use together.

Network coverage, hubs, accounts and integrations are part of the planning conversation. We agree what setup is included and explain normal operation and any limitations.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Choose the system.
Then choose the devices.

Compatibility is specific to the product and version. A shared smart-home label does not mean every device works together.

Wiring requirements
Some devices need wiring that is not present at an existing switch. We check the installation before confirming the retrofit.
Controls & dimming
Dimmers, LED drivers and lamps must be a compatible combination. Basic switching and dimming are different functions.
Network & hubs
Check required hubs, wireless coverage and internet dependence. Some functions may be unavailable during an outage.
Accounts & ongoing support
Agree who owns accounts and what setup is included. Manufacturer services, subscriptions and future updates are outside the electrical installation itself.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Do you provide smart home and automation in Carlton?

Yes. We cover every part of Carlton (VIC 3053). Include your street and a short description of the job, and we will come back to you about timing. We also cover Carlton North and East Melbourne.

Will smart switches work in my Carlton home?

Many will, but it depends on the switch wiring and your Wi-Fi. Older homes in particular may not have a neutral at the switch. Tell us the products you are considering and we will confirm compatibility first.

Does smart home and automation in a Carlton apartment need owners corporation approval?

It depends on the building's rules. Work that touches common property, the building's structure or shared services usually needs approval, while work inside your own apartment may not. 81% of homes in Carlton are flats or apartments, so we check the building's requirements with you before booking.

Can you add smart controls to an existing home?

Often, but suitability depends on the wiring, connected equipment and selected products. We assess the proposed locations before confirming the work.

Will everything work with my voice assistant?

Not automatically. Share the exact devices and platform so compatibility can be checked. Features vary by product, region and software version.

Do you install every automation platform?

No universal platform support is promised. Tell us your chosen products and desired functions so we can confirm the scope before quoting.

Can I start with one room?

Yes. Planning the wider system first can help avoid incompatible purchases while keeping the first installation small.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Carlton.
A clearer next step.

Carlton had about 16,060 residents and about 9,830 homes at the 2021 Census, with a median age of 27. 23% of Carlton homes are owner-occupied and 72% are rented; renters need the owner's approval for fixed changes. Older homes may lack neutral wiring at switches, which limits some smart switches, so we check before you buy. Larger and multi-level homes often need a reliable network before automation works well. The share of homes with a mortgage is 10% in Carlton, lower than in next-door Carlton North (19%) and East Melbourne (18%).

Clean Energy Regulator records show 209 small-scale solar systems installed in postcode 3053 since 2001, and 21 home batteries since July 2025. Solar and battery systems add to what the switchboard has to manage, which we take into account.

Carlton is about 15 km south of our Lalor base, in Melbourne's inner city, around Lygon Street and the Carlton Gardens. Carlton sits within the Melbourne council area. The same service is available in nearby Carlton North, East Melbourne, Fitzroy and Fitzroy North.
