THE RIGHT ALARM. THE RIGHT LOCATION.

Planned around
the home you live in.

We look at the layout, existing wiring and alarms together. Photoelectric detection, mains power with battery backup and compatible interconnection each have a role in choosing the right setup.

We explain what applies to your property before the work begins. No need to identify a model or understand the wiring yourself.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Clear advice.
For your home.

Minimum requirements and added protection are different conversations. We explain both, with the building and its history in mind.

Detection
Photoelectric alarms detect smoke from smouldering fires. We discuss suitable models and check compatibility with the rest of the installation.
Power & connection
Hardwired alarms use mains electricity with battery backup. Interconnected alarms sound together; the connection may be wired or wireless, using compatible products.
Placement
Working alarms are required in Victorian homes. CFA and FRV recommend additional coverage in bedrooms and living areas. We assess the required locations and any recommended additions separately.
Rental properties
Annual smoke alarm testing applies to Victorian rental properties. We discuss the alarm work and documentation you need; an alarm visit is separate from a full rental electrical safety check.

CFA: caring for smoke alarms
Do you provide smoke alarm installation in Macleod?

Yes. We cover every part of Macleod (VIC 3085), on both the Banyule and Darebin sides of the council boundary. Tell us your street and what you need, and we will confirm when we can be in Macleod. We also cover Bundoora and Greensborough.

How many smoke alarms does a Macleod home need?

It depends on the floor plan, the number of levels and where people sleep. We assess the home and explain where alarms should go.

What affects the cost of smoke alarm installation in Macleod?

Mainly access (roof space, subfloor and wall construction), the existing circuits and whether the switchboard has room for the work. 77% of Macleod homes are separate houses, where roof and subfloor access usually make cable runs simpler. We confirm the scope before quoting.

What is an interconnected smoke alarm?

Linked alarms sound together when one detects smoke. Compatible models may connect by cable or radio. We check your existing alarms and the property before recommending an interconnected setup.

Why does my alarm keep chirping?

A chirp may indicate a battery warning, fault or end-of-life signal. Check the manufacturer's guidance and arrange help if it persists. Do not disconnect an alarm to silence it. If there is smoke or fire, leave the property and call 000.

Can you help with a rental property?

Yes. We can discuss smoke alarm testing, replacement and installation with rental providers and property managers. Consumer Affairs Victoria requires smoke alarms in rental properties to be tested at least every twelve months. This is separate from the property's electrical safety check.

What maintenance do alarms need?

CFA recommends monthly testing and annual cleaning. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your model and battery type. Long-life batteries do not remove the need for routine testing. Arrange help if you cannot safely reach the alarm.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Macleod.
A clearer next step.

Macleod had about 9,890 residents and about 4,160 homes at the 2021 Census, with a median age of 41. 36% of separate houses in Macleod have four or more bedrooms, and the number of alarms a home needs depends on its layout and bedrooms. 73% of homes are owner-occupied, where alarms are often reviewed when they reach the end of their life or during a renovation. For comparison, the share of households renting in Macleod (23%) falls between neighbouring Bundoora (28%) and Greensborough (17%).

From Lalor, Macleod is roughly 7.9 km to the south-east, in Melbourne's north-east, near Gresswell Nature Reserve and Macleod Village. Macleod is split between the Banyule council area (about 60% of the suburb) and Darebin. We also work in neighbouring Bundoora, Greensborough, Heidelberg Heights and Heidelberg West.
