KENSINGTON / MELBOURNE'S INNER NORTH-WEST
Kensington is one of Melbourne's older suburbs, where many homes are Victorian and Edwardian terraces and cottages set among newer townhouses and apartments.
At the 2021 Census, Kensington had about 5,360 homes: 17% separate houses, 53% townhouses, terraces or semi-detached homes and 29% flats and apartments. About half households in Kensington rent (49%), while 18% own outright and 31% have a mortgage. By comparison, the share of homes that are separate houses is higher in neighbouring Flemington (22%) and Footscray (32%).
Townhouses and semi-detached homes (53% here, 40% of all homes being two storeys or more) often have the meter box, switchboard and garage in different places, so cable routes are planned before anything is quoted.
In postcode 3031, about 1,040 rooftop solar systems have been installed since 2001 and 96 home batteries since July 2025 (Clean Energy Regulator). Solar inverters, batteries and EV chargers all connect through the switchboard, so its capacity and space are worth checking before adding them. By comparison, the share of households renting is higher in neighbouring Flemington (60%) and Footscray (56%).
Kensington sits within the Melbourne council area. We also work in the suburbs next door: Flemington, Footscray, North Melbourne and West Melbourne. Local landmarks include Macaulay Road and the Maribyrnong River.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED
Yes. We work right across Kensington (VIC 3031), up to the borders with Flemington, Footscray and North Melbourne. Include your street in the enquiry so we can confirm the booking details.
Victorian rental providers must arrange an electrical safety check at least every two years, and smoke alarms need to be tested every year. About 49% of Kensington's households rent (about 2,320 homes at the 2021 Census), so we can work with you or your agent on access and provide the written report.
Yes. 29% of homes in Kensington are flats or apartments, many in buildings of four storeys or more. Work in an apartment can involve the owners corporation, a shared meter room and booked access, so we confirm those details before scheduling.
It is worth checking before adding major load such as air conditioning, an induction cooktop or an EV charger. Older boards can have rewireable fuses or circuits without safety-switch protection. We assess the board and explain what, if anything, needs to change.
Tell us what you want changed, your street in Kensington and any access details. For a townhouse, mention where the meter box and switchboard are. Photos are optional; there is no need to remove electrical covers.
Call 0495 096 344 or use the enquiry below. We review the job and discuss availability and the next step. A submitted request does not itself confirm a booking.
