The difference, explained.
A rangehood either sends cooking steam and smells outside through a duct, or filters the air and returns it to the kitchen. The choice depends on the model, the kitchen and where a duct can run.
- Ducted
- Air is drawn through the filters and out through a duct to the outside. It removes moisture as well as smells, but needs a practical route through a wall or the roof.
- Recirculating
- Air passes through grease and carbon filters and returns to the room. It suits kitchens where a duct cannot run, but it does not remove moisture, and the carbon filters need replacing.
- The duct route
- Shorter, straighter ducts work better. Bends, long runs and undersized ducts reduce how well the rangehood performs.
- The electrical side
- A power point or hard-wired connection above the cooktop, positioned to the installation instructions and reachable for servicing.
- Other trades
- Roof or wall penetrations and cabinet changes may need a builder or cabinet maker. We make clear what our quote includes.
