A properly installed rangehood keeps your kitchen clear of smoke, steam, and cooking odours. Voltra Electrical installs and replaces rangehoods with correct wiring, ducting, and external venting.
Rangehood installation involves more than just mounting a unit above your cooktop. Proper installation requires hardwired electrical connection (most rangehoods don't plug in), ducting to an external vent (not recirculating through a filter), and correct mounting height above the cooking surface. Voltra Electrical handles the full installation — electrical connection, ducting, and mounting — for wall-mount, under-cabinet, and canopy rangehoods. We also replace old rangehoods and upgrade recirculating units to ducted extraction where possible.
The most effective rangehood installations use ducted extraction — routing cooking fumes through a duct to an external wall or roof vent. This removes smoke, steam, and odours from your home entirely, rather than filtering and recirculating them. We install rigid and semi-rigid ducting (preferred over flexible ducting for airflow efficiency) and ensure the external vent has a backdraft damper to prevent cold air entry. Mounting height is critical — Australian standards recommend 600–750mm above an electric cooktop and 650–750mm above gas. We verify clearances and adjust mounting accordingly. For rangehoods that require hardwiring (most do), we connect to a dedicated circuit or the existing cooktop circuit depending on load requirements.
Yes — ducted extraction removes smoke and odours from your home entirely. Recirculating units only filter particles and push air back into the kitchen. We can often convert a recirculating setup to ducted.
Yes — we handle the full installation including running a new electrical circuit, cutting the duct hole, installing ducting to an external vent, and mounting the unit.
Most rangehoods are hardwired (no plug). Some smaller under-cabinet models have a plug, but hardwired is standard for wall-mount and canopy types. We handle both.
A straightforward replacement takes 1–2 hours. A new installation with ducting typically takes 2–4 hours depending on duct run length and external vent location.
