SMART HOME / CONNECTED CONTROLS

CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Familiar switches.
Considered connections.

We review the switch position, connected load and wiring required by the selected product. Controls are planned around your daily routines and the devices you want to use together.

Network coverage, hubs, accounts and integrations are part of the planning conversation. We agree what setup is included and explain normal operation and any limitations.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Choose the system.
Then choose the devices.

Compatibility is specific to the product and version. A shared smart-home label does not mean every device works together.

Wiring requirements
Some devices need wiring that is not present at an existing switch. We check the installation before confirming the retrofit.
Controls & dimming
Dimmers, LED drivers and lamps must be a compatible combination. Basic switching and dimming are different functions.
Network & hubs
Check required hubs, wireless coverage and internet dependence. Some functions may be unavailable during an outage.
Accounts & ongoing support
Agree who owns accounts and what setup is included. Manufacturer services, subscriptions and future updates are outside the electrical installation itself.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Do you provide smart home and automation in Mernda?

Yes. We cover every part of Mernda (VIC 3754). Tell us your street and what you need, and we will confirm when we can be in Mernda. We also cover Doreen and South Morang.

Will smart switches work in my Mernda home?

Many will, but it depends on the switch wiring and your Wi-Fi. Tell us the products you are considering and we will confirm compatibility first.

My Mernda home is only a few years old. Is smart home and automation straightforward?

Usually. Newer homes generally have a modern switchboard with safety switches, although insulation, ceiling space and slab construction still affect cable routes. 55% of Mernda homes were mortgaged at the 2021 Census.

Can you add smart controls to an existing home?

Often, but suitability depends on the wiring, connected equipment and selected products. We assess the proposed locations before confirming the work.

Will everything work with my voice assistant?

Not automatically. Share the exact devices and platform so compatibility can be checked. Features vary by product, region and software version.

Can I still use a wall switch?

That can be part of the design. We discuss practical wall control and how the chosen system behaves if the network or internet is unavailable.

Do I need a hub?

It depends on the products and functions you want. Some systems need a hub for routines or remote access; others have different connection methods.

YOUR HOME / YOUR AREA

Mernda.
A clearer next step.

Mernda had about 23,370 residents and about 7,880 homes at the 2021 Census, with a median age of 33. 69% of Mernda homes are owner-occupied. Newer homes usually have neutral wiring at switches, which suits most smart switches. Larger and multi-level homes often need a reliable network before automation works well. The share of homes with a mortgage is 55% in Mernda, close to next-door Doreen (58%) and South Morang (52%).

In postcode 3754, about 7,630 rooftop solar systems have been installed since 2001 and 980 home batteries since July 2025 (Clean Energy Regulator). Solar and battery systems add to what the switchboard has to manage, which we take into account.

Mernda is about 10 km north-east of our Lalor base, in Melbourne's outer north, around Mernda Village and Mernda station. Mernda sits within the Whittlesea council area. The same service is available in nearby Doreen, South Morang, Wollert and Mill Park.
