CONSIDERED / FROM START TO FINISH

Outside, the details matter.
Rating, height and protection.

Outdoor outlets are chosen for their exposure to rain and sun, and positioned with water runoff, garden watering and foot traffic in mind. Where something stays plugged in, a cover that closes over the plug helps keep water out.

New power circuits are protected by a safety switch (RCD), and the cable route from the house is planned to stay protected, whether it runs through a wall, along a structure or underground.

03 / KNOW YOUR SETUP

Plan the spot.
Then the route.

A photo of the area and a list of what you will plug in are useful starting points.

What you will plug in
Heaters, fridges, pumps and tools draw different amounts. Tell us what will run there so the circuit and outlet suit it.
Position & height
Away from where water collects or sprays, within easy reach, and clear of doors, gates and garden beds.
Cable route
Through an external wall, along a structure or underground. Underground runs need the route and existing services checked first.
Weather exposure
A covered alfresco and an open garden are different. The exposure decides the outlet and cover type.

05 / BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Can you add a power point outside my house?

Usually, yes. We look at where you want it, what you will plug in and the cable route from a suitable circuit or the switchboard before confirming the scope.

What makes an outdoor power point weatherproof?

Outdoor outlets have a higher weather rating and a cover that closes over the socket. Where something stays plugged in, a cover that closes over the plug as well helps keep water out.

Does an outdoor power point need a safety switch?

New power circuits are protected by a safety switch (RCD). We check your switchboard and explain if anything needs to change.

Can it go in the garden or on a post?

It can, with a suitable mounting point and cable route. Underground cabling needs the route checked for existing services, and trenching responsibilities agreed in the quote.

Can I run a heater, fridge or pump from it?

Tell us the appliance and its rating. Higher-demand equipment may need its own circuit rather than sharing one with indoor outlets.

Can I charge my electric car from an outdoor power point?

A standard outlet can charge slowly, which suits occasional use. For regular charging, a dedicated EV charger on its own circuit is the better option, and we can assess both.
