Pendant Light Installation

Pendant Light Installation

Pendant lights can transform a kitchen, dining room, or entryway — but only when they're installed properly. Voltra Electrical handles pendant light installation from bracket to bulb, ensuring your fixtures are level, secure, and wired to Australian standards.

Pendant lights are one of the most popular lighting upgrades in modern Australian homes. Whether you're replacing a flush-mount ceiling light with a statement pendant over a kitchen island, or installing a row of pendants above a breakfast bar, the job requires more than just swapping a fitting. Pendant installations often involve adjusting cable drop lengths, reinforcing ceiling mounts for heavier fixtures, and sometimes running new circuits or adding dimmer switches. Voltra Electrical handles all of this — from single pendants to multi-drop arrangements — ensuring every fixture hangs level, is securely fastened, and meets AS/NZS 3000 wiring standards. We work with fixtures you've purchased yourself or can advise on compatible options. All work includes a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

The most common pendant light installations we handle include kitchen island pendants (typically 2–3 drops), dining table feature pendants, hallway or entryway statement lights, and bedside hanging pendants. Each installation is different — ceiling height, joist location, existing wiring, and fixture weight all affect the approach. We assess every job individually and provide a clear quote before starting. If your ceiling doesn't have an existing light point where you want the pendant, we can run new cabling from the nearest circuit. For heavier fixtures (chandeliers, large glass pendants), we install reinforced mounting brackets rated for the weight. Dimmer compatibility is checked before installation to avoid flickering or buzzing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install a pendant where there's no existing light?

Yes — we can run new cabling from the nearest circuit to create a new light point wherever you need it. This is common for kitchen islands and dining areas where the original light was in a different position.

Do I need to supply the pendant light?

You can supply your own fixture or we can advise on compatible options. We install any standard Australian-rated pendant light — just make sure it's hardwired (not plug-in) and rated for the intended location.

How long does a pendant light installation take?

A single pendant replacement typically takes 30–60 minutes. Multi-drop installations (e.g. 3 pendants over a kitchen island) take 1.5–3 hours depending on whether new cabling is required.

Can you add a dimmer to my new pendant?

Absolutely. We check the pendant's globe type for dimmer compatibility and install a suitable dimmer switch — trailing edge for LED, leading edge for halogen.
